The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has introduced an online facility to apply for the surrender of exemption obtained — including Permanent Exemption. This makes the process fully online and easier for candidates, removing the need for offline requests.
- CA Intermediate — September 2026 exam: 5 August 2026
- CA Final — November 2026 exam: 30 September 2026
What is "surrender of exemption"?
When a student scores 60 or more marks in an individual paper, ICAI grants an exemption in that paper for the following attempts. Surrendering an exemption means voluntarily giving it up so the candidate can re-appear in that paper (for example, to attempt a better score). A Permanent Exemption can now also be surrendered through this same online facility.
How to apply online
- Log in to your SSP (Self Service Portal) dashboard on the ICAI website using your credentials.
- Go to Exam Functions.
- Choose the option to surrender the exemption obtained and submit before the applicable cut-off date above.
