IPMAT broadly rests on two pillars, with a reasoning element at some IIMs. Note that IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak run their own versions, so always match the pattern to the IIM you are targeting.

Quantitative Ability
Your numbers pillar, drawn largely from Classes 9–12 maths: arithmetic (percentages, ratios, averages), algebra, number systems, geometry and, depending on the IIM, higher-order topics. Some IIMs split this into a multiple-choice part and a short-answer (type-the-answer) part, so accuracy matters as much as speed.

Verbal Ability
Your language pillar: grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction and reading comprehension. The comprehension passages reward a reader who can hold an argument in their head, so steady daily reading beats last-minute cramming of word lists.

Logical Reasoning (IIM-dependent)
Some IIMs (for example, IIM Rohtak's test) add a logical reasoning component — arrangements, series, coding and analytical puzzles. Whether it appears, and how it is weighted, depends on the IIM, so read that IIM's own notification before you plan.
