ISC Class 12 Syllabus: Every Subject, Explained
This is the finish line of the two-year ISC. Your Class 12 board draws on everything from Class 11 and adds the depth that colleges look at closely. Here is the whole ISC Class 12 syllabus by subject and elective, plus a plan to turn two years of study into a score you're proud of.
1The subjects at a glance
English for everyone, plus the Science or Commerce electives you chose in Class 11 - now at full depth.
1
English (compulsory core)
Language and literature for every ISC student - comprehension, essays, and prose, poetry and drama analysed in depth. ISC English rewards mature, well-structured writing, and because everyone sits it, a strong score lifts your whole aggregate.
★ High yield - counts for all2
Mathematics
Calculus, algebra and matrices, vectors and three-dimensional geometry, and probability. It is the highest-leverage practice subject you have - marks come from doing problems repeatedly, not from re-reading them.
★ High yield if taken - pure practice3
Science stream - Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Depth year: electromagnetism and modern physics, physical and organic chemistry, and genetics, biotechnology and human systems. Each has a practical exam, so the lab file and your technique are part of the final score, not a side task.
★ Concept + practical - master, don't skim4
Commerce stream - Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Commerce
Company and partnership accounts, management and business environment, and micro and macro economics. Accountancy rewards accuracy and correct format; the theory subjects reward clear, applied reasoning backed by examples.
★ Applied - link every concept to reality5
Computer Science
Programming, data structures and computing logic, carried to Class 12 depth and paired with a project. Real coding practice is what secures both the paper and the practical - you can't memorise your way through it.
★ Logic-driven - build by doing6
Physical Education and other electives
Applied electives such as Physical Education combine written theory with practical or project work. The internal component is dependable marks when you keep the practical records neat and current through the year.
★ Choose to your strength2How to finish ISC strong
Year two is about depth and delivery under exam conditions.
Live in the past papers
ISC papers have a recognisable style. Practising full past papers under time trains you for the exact question phrasing and depth the board expects.
Lock in practicals and projects
Science practicals and the Computer, Commerce or PE projects are internal marks you fully control. Keep records neat and complete rather than reconstructing them late.
Leaving English until last
It's the easiest subject to sideline while chasing your electives - and a costly one to neglect, because it counts for every ISC student.
Studying without writing
Reading feels like progress but hides gaps. ISC is a written exam - if you haven't written the answer under time, you don't yet know it.
3How the final year flows
Depth first, then delivery - a rhythm that peaks at the board.
- 1
First term - go deep
- Cover the Class 12 syllabus properly, building on your Class 11 base.
- Start practical files and projects early in every subject.
- Checkpoint: the hardest chapters are understood, not deferred.

- Half-yearly exams expose the gaps you can still fix.
- Rework weak topics before revision season.
- Checkpoint: a clear, ranked to-fix list.
- 3
Second half - past-paper mode
- Timed past papers become your main study tool.
- Finish and polish every practical and project.
- Checkpoint: you complete papers within the limit.
- 4

- Sharpen presentation and time management.
- Checkpoint: calm, rehearsed and board-ready.

Have I practised full past papers under real time pressure?Reveal
ISC has its own style and depth. Timed past papers are the closest thing to the real exam - make them your main tool, not an afterthought.
Are my practicals and projects complete and neat?Reveal
These are internal marks you control entirely. Finish them properly instead of leaving a scramble for the final weeks.
Am I giving compulsory English real time?Reveal
It counts for every ISC student and is easy to sideline. A steady English score meaningfully raises your aggregate.
