IFRS is developed in London and is followed by a large number of countries across the world. Most countries in the European Union, along with Canada and Australia, follow IFRS. Many countries in the Middle East also largely align with IFRS. On the other hand, the United States continues to follow US GAAP, although there have been ongoing discussions about convergence with IFRS. India took a slightly different approach. Instead of directly adopting IFRS, we developed our own standards—Ind AS. These standards are largely aligned with IFRS, ensuring global comparability while also incorporating certain adjustments to suit the Indian regulatory and economic environment.
