More than one truth | Who Decides Going Concern? Real Understanding for CA Students | Perspective
Accounting is not just numbers… it’s a matter of perspective. At the end of the day, it depends on what you believe. If you believe the business is a going concern— then accounting follows that assumption. But who decides that? It’s always the governing body. In a sole proprietorship— one person decides: “Will I continue or not?” In a company— the Board of Directors takes that call. Now imagine this— Something major happens globally… say in places like Qatar or United Arab Emirates. Take a giant like ExxonMobil— with significant oil assets in that region. If tomorrow, those assets are destroyed… the first question is not accounting. The first question is— “Are we still a going concern?” And that decision— is not mechanical. It’s judgment. Whenever a drastic event happens, the decision-makers sit down and decide— Do we continue… or not? And based on that— financial statements are prepared. Now think about how you started learning accounting. You were told— “Accounting is the art of recording.” But why art? Why not science? Because in science— there is only one truth. Drop something, and gravity will always pull it down. It will never go up. But in accounting? There is no single absolute truth. The entity decides its position. The treatment follows that decision. That’s why sometimes— you’ll see two or even three possible treatments for the same situation. And instead of getting confused… you should find comfort in this— Accounting is not a rigid science. #AccountingConcepts #GoingConcern #CAInter #CAFinal #AccountingIsArt #CAStudents #CommerceStudents #AccountingBasics #FinancialReporting #AdvancedAccounting #CAIndia #CAAspirants #StudyWithConcepts #AccountingLogic #CAExamPrep #ConceptClarity #LearnAccounting #CommerceEducation
